Why ‘Doing It All’ Is Draining You (And How to Stop the Cycle)
Jan 28, 2025
If you’ve ever caught yourself thinking, “I just need to push through,” “I don’t have time to slow down,” or “If I don’t do it, no one else will,”—you’re not alone.
High-achieving women and entrepreneurs often pride themselves on their ability to juggle everything. But at what cost? Trying to do it all is draining you.
Not because you’re not capable, but because you’re pouring energy into things that aren’t aligned, refusing to offload tasks that don’t need your hands on them, and overcomplicating what could be simple.
The good news? You don’t need to do it all—you just need to do what truly matters. Let’s break down how to stop the cycle of overwhelm and shift into more ease and clarity.
Identify What’s Not Aligned
The first step in breaking free from burnout is getting radically honest about what’s draining your energy. Often, it’s not the work itself—it’s the misalignment.
Ask yourself:
- Does this task align with my long-term goals?
- Could someone do this just as good as me or better?
- Am I doing this because I feel obligated or because it truly serves me?
- If I stopped doing this, would it even matter?
Many people fill their days with tasks that feel productive but don’t actually move them forward. Maybe it’s taking on unnecessary client calls, micromanaging things that don’t need your attention, or saying yes to commitments out of guilt rather than desire.
Action Step: Make a list of your daily and weekly tasks. Next to each one, write down:
- Essential (moves you toward your goal).
- Unnecessary (something you do out of habit or obligation).
- Can be delegated or automated (tasks that don’t need your hands on them).
Now, let’s work on the last two categories.
Automate and Delegate
One of the biggest reasons high-achievers burn out is holding onto control when they don’t need to.
If you’re doing repetitive, low-value tasks that drain your time and energy, it’s time to simplify.
-
Automate: Anything that happens regularly and follows a pattern can likely be automated. Think about bill payments, email responses, appointment scheduling, and content posting. Tools like Zapier, Asana, or Calendly can handle things for you.
-
Delegate: If someone else can do it 80% as well as you, let them. Hire a virtual assistant, outsource design work, or train your team to take over tasks.
You don’t need to do everything. Your role should be focused on what you do BEST.
Action Step: Pick one task this week that you can automate or delegate and set it up.
Shift Your Mindset & Reframe Overwhelm
Here’s where most people get stuck. They resist letting go or taking action because they tell themselves stories like:
- "This will take too long."
- "It’s just easier if I do it myself."
- "I don’t have time to figure out a better way."
But these thoughts are keeping you in the cycle of exhaustion.
Instead, practice intentional reframing and replace these thoughts with ones that serve you:
-
Instead of: “This will take too long.”
Try: “It won’t take as long as my brain makes it seem. I just need to start.” -
Instead of: “I don’t have time to figure this out.”
Try: “If I take 30 minutes to set this up now, it will save me HOURS later.” -
Instead of: “I have to do everything.”
Try: “I only need to focus on what actually moves me forward.”
The way you emotionally look at tasks will make or break your success. If you approach your day from a place of overwhelm, you’ll feel scattered and exhausted. If you approach it from a place of simplicity and ease, everything becomes more manageable.
Create Clarity by Knowing Who You’re Becoming
Burnout often comes from feeling pulled in too many directions. When you know exactly who you are becoming, decision-making gets easier.
Take a moment to visualize the highest version of yourself.
- What does she spend her time on?
- What does she not waste energy on?
- How does she feel in her daily life?
Now, compare that vision to how you’re currently operating. Where is the gap? The more you align your daily actions with the person you are becoming, the more effortlessly success flows.
Action Step: Write down one behavior or mindset shift you can start practicing today that aligns with your next-level self.
Less Doing, More Alignment
The goal isn’t to do more—it’s to do what truly matters.
- Remove what’s misaligned.
- Automate what doesn’t need your energy.
- Reframe your mindset so tasks feel easier.
- Operate as your future self NOW.
You don’t have to push, force, or hustle endlessly. You just need clarity, focus, and a willingness to simplify.
